Chapter 12 Extension Signed by the President

Legislation to re-enact and extend the effective date of Chapter 12 was signed by the President on Oct. 25, 2004. This legislation (S. 2864) retroactively restores bankruptcy protections for farmers and extends chapter 12 until June 30, 2005. The retroactive provision would allow some farmers who filed under a different chapter to convert to a chapter 12 filing if their bankruptcy is not yet final.
